Dransfeld, 04 June 2009. The German company Cassel Messtechnik GmbH with headquarters in Dransfeld near Hanover has recently developed a new and sophisticated metal detector for the isolation material industry. It detects ferrous particles with a diameter of down to 0.5 mm.

Combi TuIn the past, only x-ray-technology has been able to detect such minute 0.5 mm particles in up to 8 mm thick board material. However, the new metal detector – type COMBI-TU – is just the fraction of the x-ray costs. It only costs about one third of a respective x-ray-machine.

Besides iron and other ferrous material the COMBI-TU also detects lead, stainless steel and aluminium. Even thin foil pieces of any metal grade are reliably detected. X-ray machines, in contrast, have almost no detection for aluminium foil. The reason for this is the low aluminum density.

Therefore, the COMBI-TU is the optimal choice for board material produced in widths up to four meters, in all industries that need to detect preferably small metal pieces.

The electronic components producers are one of these industries. Here transformer- or paperboards serve as isolation material. For example they are used in the big power grod transformers.

Even minute metal particles embedded into the isolation material cause considerable quality defects, as they decrease the electric strength. At worst would this tiny metal contamination only reveal itself after the assembly of those big and expensive components.
